My name is Chris and I am half Japanese (mother) and half Irish (father). I am equally proud of my heritage and take great pride in being a member of the Hapa community.

My grandparents were placed in camps during WWII before moving to Michigan. Although one might expect them to harbor anger or discontent they never expressed it. They always preached respect, understanding and acceptance; views that have stuck with me throughout my life.

I grew up in southwest Michigan on the lake. Some of the best beaches anywhere. The town was 95% white and although most of my peers were blind to my difference when summer rolled around it was hard to ignore how much better my tan was. Silver Beach Hapa for the win!
