Exactly one year ago, I posted the first Hapa Voice entry, hoping to create a place where multiracial individuals all over the world could share their stories, and to work toward fulfilling this mission.
I’m proud to announce that as of today, we’re now 100 voices strong and growing!
So thank you to all our participants and supporters, and may we continue to raise the Hapa voice for many years to come :)
Here’s a look back at what you guys have said over the past year:
- “Hapa to me represents diversity. Diversity of mind, heart, and soul.”
- “One of the best lessons I learned from growing up Hapa is this: leave your prejudices at the door!”
- “I do not like to identify as half-anything. It is too simple, too formulaic, too divisive. It implies that I must keep my identities separate.”
- “As I grew up my heritage became not only a part of my identity but a source of pride.”
- “That’s what being Hapa is all about: showing the world our perspective and letting everyone know that things don’t have to be so black and white.”
- “We are revolutionary and modern and we are a glimpse of a more loving, more inclusive future.”
And in case you missed them, check out the stories of the prominent filmmakers, musicians, and authors featured on Hapa Voice this year!
Happy birthday Hapa Voice ;)
Congrats! I still remember when this was just a glimmer in your eye =P
